Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing are commonly performed on cases of periodontal disease. Commonly known as non-surgical treatment involving thorough debridement (cleaning) of the tooth root surfaces will be undertaken often over a number of appointments. In some cases periodontal surgery may be required to gain adequate access to the root surfaces. Periodontal surgery is necessary when your periodontist determines that the tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be repaired with non-surgical treatment.
Laser Gum Surgery For Teeth
The laser gum surgery protocol is a laser-based treatment for gum disease. There is no cutting and suturing with the laser treatment. Patients typically report less pain and discomfort during and after the procedure, compared to traditional gum surgery. This patient friendly procedure helps you get healthy again comfortably, without fear.
The laser gum procedure can only be done with laser that operates at a specific wavelength that attacks the bacteria that contributes to gum disease while leaving healthy tissue intact. Post-surgical recession and tooth sensitivity, which can be significant following traditional gum surgery, are also greatly reduced.
Laser gum surgery Benefits:
- Faster Healing: Laser treatment is minimally invasive and allows the body to recover and heal more quickly.
- Less Discomfort: Patients report less discomfort during and after surgery.
- No Cut, No Sew, No Fear: Laser protocol uses laser light energy to eliminate the bacteria that cause gum disease, and help your mouth recover faster.
- Minimal Recovery Time: Most patients can immediately return to their daily routine.
- Reduction in Gum Inflammation and Bleeding: The laser targets inflammatory bacteria without injuring healthy tissue.
- Saves Teeth: Patients can keep their natural teeth sometimes even when the teeth have been deemed ‘hopeless’ with traditional treatments.
Gum Therapies
Cosmetic Crown Lengthening:
This procedure improves the esthetics of your gum-line and is also recommended if you require special treatment to prepare for a restorative procedure, such as a crown or a bridge.
During crown lengthening, we adjust the gum-line to expose more of your tooth and improve your dental symmetry. This procedure improves the appearance of your teeth and gives you a more natural-looking smile. Crown lengthening can be done for one tooth or several teeth. It is an ideal treatment if you have what’s often referred to as a “gummy smile.” A gummy smile can make your teeth appear short. Once the tissue is reshaped, your teeth will be exposed at their proper and more natural looking length.
